UV Bulbs: The Ultimate Hot Tub Cleaning Upgrade

Hot tub enthusiasts know that keeping your hot tub clean and safe is a top priority. While chlorine is the main traditional method for sanitization, UV bulbs are the innovative, revolutionary way to enhance spa cleanliness.

What is UV sanitization?

UV sanitization uses ultraviolet light to kill bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms in your hot tub water. This method has been used for years in drinking water and wastewater treatment due to its effectiveness and safety. Combined with a bit of chlorine, the UV light method is the optimal way to keep your hot tub clean and pristine!

Benefits of UV Sanitization

  1. Healthier Soaking Environment: Without the need for as much chlorine, fewer harsh chemicals are present, leaving less risk of skin irritation, red eyes, and less of that strong chlorine smell that may be off-putting
  2. Improved Water Quality: UV light effectively eliminates a wide range of pathogens, resulting in clearer, cleaner water. Say goodbye to cloudy or murky hot tub water and enjoy a crystal-clear soak every time.
  3. Eco-Friendly Solution: Reducing chemical usage is not only good for your health but also for the environment. Fewer chemicals mean less impact on water systems and a smaller carbon footprint for your hot tub maintenance.
  4. Cost-Effective in the Long Run: Although the initial investment in a UV sanitization system might be higher than traditional methods, the long-term savings on chemicals and the extended lifespan of your hot tub components make it a cost-effective choice.

How much less chlorine can I use?

The UV light takes care of 99.9% of bacteria, however you’ll still need some chlorine to clear out residual microorganisms introduced between UV treatments. While the exact reduction can vary based on factors like hot tub size, usage frequency, and water quality, UV sanitization of 18 W typically allows for a reduction in chlorine usage by approximately 50-70%

While a standard hot tub without sanitization might require 3-5 ppm (parts per million) of chlorine for proper sanitization, a Canadian Spa Company UV-light-user only needs about 1-2 ppm.

What makes our UV bulbs stand out?

At Canadian Spa Company, we offer a AO3P Advanced Oxidization System which combines both ozone filtration processes AND 18W UV bulbs- Something that other hot tub companies don’t offer. This means even less chlorine/chemicals will need to be used in your tub (up to 80%!): More bang for your buck! When ozone gas combines with UV light, hydroxyl radicals are created, providing the ultimate level of spa cleanliness.
